Lyrics
The Same Cup
Mother can?t you help
Your daughter with her dreams
It?s just a little push
To stop them
Ripping at the seams
She?s gonna run away
All you do is hold her down
Pretty soon she?s not
Going to be around
Our hearts are on fire
We?re nailed to the wall
Can?t quench this desire
Or make it to the floor
Our love is like a flower
That never learns to grow
When it?s been sheltered
From the sunlight
Or covered up in snow
I can see it in your eyes
Nothing?s going to change
Now, we?re not the same people
In that old picture frame
You her alone
You leave us alone
Don?t you know that?s
Not how the river flows
It?s like we?re ten years old
Though we?re all grown up
Don?t you understand we?re not
From the same cup
Baby, come here now
Put down the phone
They don?t need to know
That we?re not at home
You know it drives me crazy
The way they keep tabs on us
Pretty soon baby
We?re gonna be on that bus
So take that worried look
From off of your face
You?re coming with me to
Dance the night away
Soon you?ll be free
Hey, baby
Why don?t you want to come with me
I can see it in your eyes
Nothing?s going to change
Now, we?re not the same people
From the good old days
Don?t leave me alone
Don?t leave me alone
It doesn?t have to be
How the river flows
It?s like we?re ten years old
Now we?re all grown up
What are you saying?
Thought we were from the same cup
I?m ten years old
And running along the beach
Got the blue sky in the morning
Got the sun at my feet
But the alarm bell rings
And I wake from that dream
Sit up in bed and you?re nowhere
To be seen
I can see from your lies
Nothing?s ever changed
Now, we?re not the same people
From that old picture frame
I am alone
You?ve left me alone
I guess this was always
How the river flowed
Wish I was ten years old
I?m all grown up
Left here with nothing
But bruises scars and cuts
Don?t you get it?
Don?t you get it?
