I Just Wanna Write a Song

Story Behind The Song

Wyatt wrote the chorus and the chords to go along with it and sent it to the band email to see what we thought. I (Jason) liked it and a few weeks later when we jamming I brought it up and we went over it with no luck at first. But after trying several different strum we finally settled on one we liked. The next day I woke up with the song in my head, it was a beautiful day so I got out of bed, grabbed my guitar and wrote the rest of the lyrics. The "na na na" part, which ended up being the catchiest almost existed. I originally had a guitar lead planned there but filled it in for the time being with na na na's. When I showed the song to the rest of the guys that was their favorite part, as well as most everyone else who heard it, so they stuck!

Song Description

The song has kind of duel meaning. When Wyatt originally wrote the chorus he was trying very hard to think of something to write about and he said to himself man I just wanna write a song! So that's what he wrote about. So part of the song has a very literal meaning and shows the frustration that songwriting gives you occasionally. But it also has a lot to do with love and happiness. It's about enjoying the little things, like waking up to a beautiful day, or hearing the voice of the person you love and it bringing a smile to your face.

Lyrics

Well I Just Wanna Write a Song
One that you can sing along
Singer stops and you carry on
It doesn't matter if the words are wrong
I just wanna write a song

Well I opened my eyes and the sun beat
And the world outside keeps spinning around
So I got up and got our of bed
Life's too damn short to just play dead
So I picked up my old guitar
Strummed some chords but didn't get too far
I hear my baby calling my name and it sounds so sweet
It sounds like na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na na na na
I got a melody in my head na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na

Chorus
And it makes me wanna write a song
One that you can sing along
Singer stops and you carry on
It doesn't matter if the words are wrong
I just wanna write a song
One that you can sing along
Singer stops and you carry on
It doesn't matter if the words are wrong
I just wanna write a song

Well everybody's gotta stop
Doing what they're doing right now
Cause there ain't no time to waste
You better get yourself started on loving somebody cause there ain't nothing sweet as the taste
As those lips you're kissing they're the lips that are singing this song along with you
And if it makes her smile then it's sure worthwhile
I'll tell you what I'm gonna do

I'm gonna sing na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na na na na
I got a melody in my head na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na

Chorus
na na na na....
