Story Behind The Song
Several years ago i was invited to perform at the Butterfly Festival in Jacksonville, FL. I thought it would be great to write a butterfly song. I also made myself a butterfly dress. But I was not able to turn into a caterpillar.
Song Description
Any little kid that says a big word sounds smart...so why not teach them how to say metamorphosis...and learn what it means in relation to one of God's pretties insects - The Butterfly! Explores the mystery of creation: How can something splendid come from something that looks dead? Good question! This is a good song to use in conjunction with the children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.

Lyrics
If you want to sound smart,
then say a big word like
Metamorphosis
If you want to sound smart,
then say a big word like
Metamorphosis
Then the next time you find yourself playin' outside
And along swoops a swallowtail butterfly
Don't just stand there, say, "Hi!"
I never metamorphosis like you!
Oh I never metamorphosis like you!
You hide inside your chrysalis, you do!
And as the days and weeks are passing by
You turn into a pretty butterfly!
The mystery of creation sometimes makes me scratch my head.
How can something splendid come from something that looks dead?
The caterpillar creeps along and eats a lot of leaves.
Then he spins a prison that transforms him while he sleeps.
That's when he undergoes
Right under your nose
Changing out his clothes
Now everybody knows
SPOKEN: What's that big word we just learned?
AUDIENCE: METAMORPHOSIS!
IF you.....
