Apart from Me

Story Behind The Song

John 15:5 is one of my life theme verses. I can't do ANYTHING without Jesus. In Him all things hold together. I wrote this song to remind myself (and others) of that fact.

Song Description

Using the metaphor of autumn leaves and flowers, this song expresses that apart from Jesus Christ, we can do nothing.

Lyrics

Chorus: Apart from Me
You can do nothing
Apart from Me
You'll fade and die
Cling to Me
Beloved children
Abide in My love
In My love abide.

Autumn leaves of glory
Are clinging to the trees
Blazing red and orange and gold
Dancing in the breeze
One by one, they fall to the ground
One by one, the autumn leaves turn brown.

Flowers in my garden
are blooming bright and fair
Growing strong and beautiful
When rain water is there
One by one, with water they thrive
One by one, no water and they die.

Sometimes selfish days creep in
Clogging up my mind
When I'm not close to Jesus
In creeps my pride
Then He comes to humble His lamb
Jesus comes and loves me as I am
Apart from Him.....

There's people walking everywhere
Who haven't seen the light
Living in a loveless world
Stumbling in the night
One by one, they fall to the ground
One by one, brethren, they need to be found
Apart from You...

I like religious music. In this song, the message is the most important thing. Its delivery was successful. The music itself was in the background as it should be. This song can be sung at the campfire and elsewhere as long as a guitar is available. Thanks for the great song and message. The singer sang beautifully.

You did it again.... great job

This sounds nice and structurally is spot on!! The vocal is pleasant and the message is tried & true. There appears to be a religious feel to this composition....a universal thought for sure!! This could be an excellent song for a younger group of children, a real campfire tune for sure!! Fine song for the ages!!!

Isnt it nice to be the one? You will not survive/ YOUR PUPPY? WHO? STRANGE!! PLEASE EXPLAIN! THANKS!

You have a beautiful voice. You also have a nice hook in the words 'apart from him, me' etc. You may already know this, but there are folk festivals out there like Winfield (Walnut Valley Festival) that are perfect venues for your music. This song reminded me of the music I hear there. Obviously this is a great niche for you. Keep up the good work and good luck!

The lead vocal is very pleasant. Nice Joni Mitchell feel. Great message. the BGV's reinforce nicely when they enter. This song would make very nice support material for a sermon series on "Abide" from the gospel of John.

Strong, simple tune and arrangement that get the message across effectively. Pleasant chorus harmonies. Very clear enunciation.

You are so artistic with your music.I love it.I LOVE THE LYRICAL STORIES.

nice vocal work........solid lyrics....

Beautiful thought provoking folk song. True words. Sweet music. Well written!
