Wild and Free

Story Behind The Song

Wild and Free is one of the easiest songs I've ever written. Somehow, each verse just flew onto the paper. Of all of the songs I've written, this to me is one that I'd truly love to jump into. It reminds me too of Brooks and Dunn - I Should've Been a Cowboy. Very similar theme I'd say. I think the reason I enjoyed writing this song so much was because I could easliy imagine myself in this man's shoes. This song seemed real to me. I wasn't making this stuff up.

Song Description

Who doesn't have a fantasy of livin' a hundred years ago and riding the plains - drifting from town to town? That's what Wild and Free is about. Living free and easy without the worries commonplace in today's society. No ties to anyone or anyplace - living one day at a time. This is an up tempo journey back in time - without commitments and responsibilities - where freedom was doing as one pleases and going anywhere the wind blows.

Wild and Free

Nearly four decades I have been driftin?

From town to town, job to job, no family

I settled down a time or two, always left me feelin? blue

Can?t fence me in, I?m runnin? wild and runnin? free.

Chorus:
Free to run, rope and ride, from time to time I run and hide

From the law, from a woman chasin? me

Ain?t got a dime to my name, not a penny?s worth of shame

On the run, runnin? wild and runnin? free

I trade my labor for a room and a bottle

In a town where nobody knows my name

Never get the urge to stay, make few friends along the way

I saddle up, and I head out on the range

Chorus:
Free to run, rope and ride, from time to time I run and hide

From the law, from a woman chasin? me

Ain?t got a dime to my name, not a penny?s worth of shame

On the run, runnin? wild and runnin? free

There?s no one waitin? up for me when the sun sets

Solitaire, is my game it?s plain to see

I call my home most anyplace, all I?ve got is my own space

Don?t give a damn, ?cause I know I?ll always be

Chorus:
Free to run, rope and ride, from time to time I run and hide

From the law, from a woman chasin? me

Ain?t got a dime to my name, not a penny?s worth of shame

I'm on the run, runnin? wild and runnin? free

(Tag) Can't tie me down I'm runnin' wild and runnin' free
