Story Behind The Song
I had just moved out and ended a 4 yr relationship with this girl. It was at a point where she wanted to move this along to the "next phase", house, marriage, kids etc.
I just kept hearing that talking heads song "Once in a Lifetime". I knew this wasn't it.
Song Description
"Things Could be Better" is essentially a reflective piece on the nature of relationships. It addresses such topics as the search for intimacy and autonomy as well as touching on the subject of love vs. illusion, while sifting through the debris of a lost relationship . Was there growth or is the singer in the same place as where he started at the begining of the relationship? It is the search for a deeper more meaningful connection that moves the song forward. The search for intimacy and passion and balance.

Lyrics
Is this fronteer or more of what I've found?
Have I come clear? Or am I underground
There's always more than what's before me
A bigger world out side my story
And I'm here but am I on my ground
I keep a photograph of pictures past
You warned me that they wouldn't last through the year
With doubts I deal I guess I'm just undone
It seems so surreal when everything is dumb
So tell me what tommorrow's matters mean
When I find myself stuck in this scene
And I'm here but am I on the run?
I keep my heart locked up inside the gloom
You asked me did I find the room to breath
Chorus:
You could say things could be better
Did you find what you were looking for here?
Say goodbye to Cinderella
Say goodbye to all you were of these years
No use Hiding from this weather
The fallout of different worlds here
Change fear
Looking for an answer thats not here...
Break:
Well who are you and who am I?
Drift in these separated skies
Are you lonely when you phone me?
Makes me wonder what I look like in your mirror
Repeat chorus
Fall back in my arms again
Fall back in my bed
Fade
