Picture Frame

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this about the memory of my great-grandad, who taught our family so much. After seeing a video and picture, I had a thought of "that's not all there is left of him". This song was the result of that idea.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
In a picture frame,
that's where they're held
the memories of your life,
the stories that we tell
But the good old days
And your legacy
Can't be contained behind
the dusty glass we see

Chorus:
Cause it's not just what fits in a picture frame
That tells the story of a life
And it's not just what's in the words we say
That makes your spirit come alive
It's the parts of you you left behind
That linger in these walls
It's the way you live on inside us all

Verse 2:
Those pictures can't sound like you
They can't call our names
And your arms won't wrap around us
From behind those frames
But still there's something there
That won't ever fade
The feeling that your love for us
Was Heaven made

Bridge:
As the sunlight hits your face,
And your smile gleams
It's almost like you're here,
Not just printed in ink
Cause even though you're gone,
You're still teaching us
It's not the time you have,
But the way you fill it up
