Story Behind The Song
I dreamed this song and was lucky enough to remember the lyrics and the melody when I woke up the next morning. The lyrics described my family so accurately, that I called my mother to share. We had a great laugh and I kept the song as one of my favorite.
Song Description
My father would work shift work when we were kids. Consequently, he wasn't available for weekend vacations that my mother planned perpetually. So my Mom and my siblings would load up the family station-wagon and head off to West Texas, Six Flags or some point in between.

Lyrics
Verse 1
We had a '53 Mercury wagon, with wood trim on the sides and the gate.
We would go down the road singing songs no one knows,
Just to keep Momma awake.
Well our repertoire didn't go to far so we'd sing 'em all over again.
When we were tired of those we'd count telephone poles and sing a few Baptist hymns.
Chorus
Glory, glory hallelujah...When my family would sing
I'm gonna tell you it would get right to ya,
Glory, glory hallelujah...We were a Texas Family living life,
Doing it together and doing it right,
We were a Texas family living life like a song.
Verse 2
Money wasn't much worth mentioning, there wasn't much of it to talk about.
Daddy worked real hard while we played in the yare and Momma hung the laundry out.
Sunday would come we were up with the sun, but we never got to church on time.
Whether fast or slow it was good to know that the Lord and the preacher didn't mine.
Chorus
Glory, glory hallelujah...When my family would sing
I'm gonna tell you it would get right to ya,
Glory, glory hallelujah...We were a Texas Family living life,
Doing it together and doing it right,
We were a Texas family living life like a song.
Bridge
My daddy'd go to church on Sunday,
Sit on the back road down by the end.
My Momma always hoped that one day,
He'd stay 'til the last Amen.......
Chorus
Glory, glory hallelujah...When my family would sing
I'm gonna tell you it would get right to ya,
Glory, glory hallelujah...We were a Texas Family living life,
Doing it together and doing it right,
We were a Texas family living life like a song.
