SALVATION ARMY MAN

THERE'S A WARM LIBRARY DOWN AN OLD CITY STREET
WHERE A SALVATION ARMY MAN MAKES HIS RETREAT
HE WORE A SUEDE HAT AND A CORDOROY COAT
HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS DRINK AND THE WORDS THAT HE WROTE

A SALVATION ARMY MAN IN FROM THE COLD
A SCHOLARLY MAN AND A GENTLE OLD SOUL
HE'D LOOK AT THE PAPER, TAKE OFF HIS HAT
AND BEGIN GATHERING KNOWLEDGE FROM THIS AND FROM THAT

BRIDGE
HE WOULD GO SEARCHING DOWN AISLE AFTER AISLE
AND FINDING SOME TREASURE HE'D STOP FOR AWHILE
MAKING SOME NOTES AS HE MADE HIS WAY
PERHAPS AN IDEA FOR A NOVEL SOME DAY, ...SOME DAY

AND I THOUGHT IT ALL SAD AND THE WASTE OF A MAN
THAT FATE OR FORTUNE HAD DEALT SUCH A HAND
AND I FOUND HIM WITH HIGH AND THE LOWEST OF LOWS
SHARING HIS THOUGHTS FROM A LIFETIME OF WOE

HE COULD TAKE ANY STORY AND GIVE IT A SPIN
RECITE ALL THE PLACES THAT HE'D EVER BEEN
YOU COULD SEE THE LIGHT IN HIS EYES
DISCOVERING A MYSTERY FROM WHICH HE COULD GUIDE

HE KNEW CONSTELLATIONS AND STARS IN THEIR FLIGHT
AND OLD COWBOY STORIES TOLD BY MOONLIGHT
A FARAWAY WAR STILL PLAYED IN HIS MIND
BUT THE MAN I REMEMBER WAS GENTLE AND KIND

(INSTRUMENTAL)

THERE'S A WARM LIBRARY DOWN AN OLD CITY STREET
WHERE A SALVATION ARMY MAN MAKES HIS RETREAT
HE WORE A SUEDE HAT AND A CORDOROY COAT
I REMEMBER THE MAN AND THE WORDS THAT HE WROTE

THE WORDS, ....HE WROTE

Well thought out lyrics; good job overall. The instrumentation fits the song well.

This is a really good song and recorded well....

What a wonderful story this tells.Definitely not overused, The lyric is well crafted and flows nicely. The music forms a nice backdrop for the story without being intrusive. The singer is confident and in tune. The recording is clean and clear. The mix is even so all parts can be heard.

Nice finger picking guitar heard mire in the beginning

Great narrative flow. I like the words throughout the entire song. This is a great old-school story about an interesting person, or an interesting life.

Everyone plays real well and within the constraints of the genre. The vocal is perfect for the song and the gentle feel of the music, allows for the story to shine through.

A true folk song.

Beautiful, very poignant, love your lyrics. The song tells a a very sweet story

a good song...and a good story

It has a really nice feel to it, very inviting. I think the recording and arrangement are good. It moves along very well. I really like the voice of the singer, very good folk voice. The melody is nice and very appropriate for the style and the voice of the song.

ok good like it so far its not overproduced like 90% of what I hear these days nice voice!

A really good song, well written and delivered lyrically and instrumentally. It has an impressive hook that keeps the listener interested in the song. The lively tempo of the song helps sell a lyric that captures a wonderful image and emotion. All in all, a song I would add to my library and a song I would have liked to have written.

I loved the piano and the tone of your voice in this song. It was a wonderful story telling country song. You did a good job with the structure, production and the lyrics. I could see this bein a movie type song. I wonder if this is about a real person you knew, it felt very real.

Nice rolling melody, adding instruments as it goes. Touching story intertwined through the pleasant tune. Good performance.

I really like this song. You've used imagery to very good effect. When the picture jumps out to set the story you're doing really good songwriting in my opinion.
Nice melodic movement and good recording and arrangement.
If I got the title right, then that's a great song title.

Good song. Very interesting! I appreciate the nice groove, and the melody is catchy! The hook is nice as well "salvation army man I grew to understand". This lyrics are very original I really like it!

Keep up the great work! I was tapping my foot the whole time!
