Story Behind The Song
This is part 2 of my song, "Married Man". I was in love with a man who was married, unhappily albeit. We had the craziest relationship- really, we had so much in common in a spiritual sense, but we couldn't admit our love to each other because of his 'predicament'. So... we just had some sex and then fought a lot so he could break ties and not feel bad about a) cheating on his wife, and b) treating me like his personal whore. (Aside: After I moved to Vancouver to get away from this whole heartbreaking fiasco, he called me to tell me he fianally got a divorce. Too bad, jerkoff, I'm now officially OVER IT!)
Song Description
A song about two people, who by their own separate circumstances, cannot form a solid intimate relationship. One is pleading to the other that they are exactly the same deep down- they are both really messed up and, ultimately, they belong together.

Lyrics
Peel All The Layers
Music and Lyrics by M. Baker, Copyright 2003
You're so far away, so out of reach..
there is nothing you can say
So stop trying, stop pretending
Just hold me in silence for today
(Chorus)
If you peel all the layers back,
everything is so crystal clear
You can see your relfection
in my soul
Don't tell me you love me
when it's written all over you
Don't talk about all that's changing-
there is nothing you can do
(chorus)
But if you peel all the layers back,
everything is so crystal clear
you will see your reflection
in my soul
and if I peel all the layers back,
everything is so crystal clear,
I can see my reflection
in your soul.
(bridge:)
Well I know this is crazy talk
so I disregard the million things I'm dying to say
I feel like I'm losing my mind,
I lose my train of thought
but who cares?
If this is only physical
(to you, anyway)
If you peel all the layers back
You will see your reflection
in my soul.
