Lyrics
Brother Whiskey
Marghi Allen
(c) 1980
Brother Whiskey he came driving into town
In a Corvette he rebuilt two years ago
He was dressed to kill and he knew that the sound
Of his voice made the women lose control
He went cruising down the back roads going slow
Now Mary Lou was in the shower taking steam
She was living in a dream or some such jive
Now some men called her nasty and some men called her mean
But she hardly realized she was alive
No her house it was no home, it was a dive
Chorus:
Oh Brother Whiskey won?t you please come in
And pour me a drink at the bar
Oh Brother Whiskey I know that I am sinking
But I can?t fall very far
You just hold my hand and stay where you are
Mary Lou when walking cross the room
She was nodding out and talking to herself
Yeah, Mary Lou was plotting her own doom
As her hand reached for that bottle on the shelf
No she certainly wasn?t thinking about her health.
Bridge:
So she crawled inside another Quaalude
And she rolled herself across the floor
And she realized it was the prelude to her death
And then he knocked upon her door
Chorus:
And she said Brother Whiskey won?t you please come in
And pour me a drink at the bar
Oh Brother Whiskey I know that I am sinking
But I can?t fall very far
You just hold my hand and stay where you are
When the call came in Mary?s mama she was sleeping
She drove to town in her dressing gown
But it did no good you know there just weren?t no keeping
Mary Lou from sinking down
Now Mary Lou has gone underground
And Brother Whiskey he is driving out of town
In that Corvette he rebuilt three years ago
He is grinning to himself cause he knows that the sound
Of his voice made that woman lose control
He is cruising down the back roads going slow.
