Lyrics

THE RICHES of RAGS

Verse 1:
He untied her blindfold as she stepped across the threshold
And said "I know it's not much; and it aint nothin' special"
There were cracks in the walls and ceiling
All the paint in the hall was peeling
But with teardrops in her eyes, she threw both arms around him & said . .

Chorus 1:
"Baby, it's all I ever wanted
These four walls are all we need--cause we both know honey
That if we got love well then the money aint nothin'
You can't buy the kind of love we have
Yeah these days and the memories are the riches of rags"

Verse 2:
Well the walls got fixed & every crack was filled
They started with a garden---then they thought they'd raise a few kids
Years flew by filled with nights full of bedtime stories read
And when she'd watched the last one fall asleep
She'd climb into their bed and whisper . . .

Chorus 2:
"Baby, it's all I ever wanted.
These four walls are all we need--cause we both know honey
That if we got love well then the money aint nothin'
You can't buy the kind of love we have
These days and the memories are the riches of rags"

Bridge:
Well they moved out years ago & got a spread on the edge of town
And now those kids have kids of their own but sometimes they still drive by
Oh, if those walls could talk they'd laugh
And when they pass they both smile knowing
How a house with just one floor can have a thousand stories

Chorus 3:
"Baby, it's all I ever wanted
Those four walls, you and me--'cause we both know honey
We always had love and the money wasn't nothin'
You can't buy the kind of love we had"
?And when they look back on those years and that old house
It always seems like the hard times weren't soo bad
'Cause those days and the memories were the riches of rags
