In the heart of the Black Hills mountains I was born there in the wild and within the maze of the Badlands I would play there as a child but the plague for gold spread rampant and we were forced to leave or die from the heart of the Black Hills mountains underneath the sacred sky In the heart of the Black Hills mountains there's a place to where people flock and engraven on the mountain they've made faces out of rock and they say it stands for freedom, of one nation under God, but for me it stands for bloodshed and for values stole and lost And as the rain comes down I have found it looks as if the faces are crying but new tears won't change the years of pain that has been brought for in the heart of the Black Hills mountains there's a symbol out ouf rock In the heart of the Black Hills mountains I am taken back again to the place long considered homeland to the memory of my kin There's a presence in the hills there back beyond the sight of man and it speaks the ways of beauty that I hope to see again
