I Will Again

Story Behind The Song

Jerry came up with the background music, which just seemed to feel like a road song to me. I muttered vocals onto the recording, and came up with the idea of a travelogue. Andrew then took my mutterings and crafted them into the lyrics of the song.

Song Description

A surreal, poetic American travelogue with spoken word and ethereal vocals set to a driving beat, rich with imagery. The song has a medium-fast tempo, but has a serene, dreamlike quality to it. Another artist that would create similar work would be Ken Nordine.

Lyrics

Daylight comes Daylight ends. Clouds. The seasons come again.
Looking like a stranger. Have I been away that long? Ride on.
Gonna write a little song.

Seeing the sunlight through the needle's rocks on high... give me the day, give me the day... Follow that

daylight all the way
Slidin' away.
Slidin' away, slidin' away
Never told nobody I was gonna stay.
-------
REFRAIN:
Oh I will again. Somehow I will again.
You know it feels like the first time it's ever been
-------
One gas pump. Paint's all gone
Valvoline in and I'm ramblin' on.
Begone the footsteps of the evening are gonna catch up.
End of the day.
End of the day it's time to play. The orange pickers are all walking away.
Down the road, white shirts show. Flashin' smiles and carrying loads.
Wave, turn the corner, and they're gone.

(Refrain)

Oh the road, she's my secret lover.
I dream of her and of no other love.
-------------

My song? I sing. What I find as I ride 'neath the great big sky.
And the things that I see?
Sing along with me as I sing so free... my song...
Of the pikes and the peaks
and the mesa's streaks painting red in the sky where the blue goes dry ,comin' down from on high to a

Denver sky and the road to Cheyenne and the big Badlands...

What a day what a dream what a scene what a feel what a road I'm seeing rolling under these wheels.

(Refrain)

Flame. The last of dawn.
Comin' to the place where I learned my song.

Eagle's eye, spirits cry..
Pickup truck makes the gray dust fly. Silent faces gather round. The people here understand the

ground. Walkin' tall, talkin' small.
Settle in.
Gonna stay for the day gonna sweat-lodge pray, gonna journey on down to the sound of one tom,

pounding all night
Gonna rise in the morning, Gonna feel all right
Walkin', talkin', laughin', rockin'.

Refrain

Refrain

Rain. Can't stay. So it ends with my friends. Got time enough to make amends.
Ask me when I can stay ... for more than just a night and day.

Gotta ride. Gotta go. Gotta find out what I don't yet know.
But we're friends .. 'til the end.

Hills fly by. Emerald sky..
Shattered peaks still strain up high..
In the sky above the road, the eagle soars on beams of gold.

On the clouds, in the sky...
Rain? It'll pass on by..

Gonna Fly
