OCTOPUS SLAP

Story Behind The Song

My kids came up with the "octopus slap" - you can imagine the silliness as we sit on a couch "octopus slapping" each other!

Song Description

A dance song in which you wave your arms in front of the other dancer in the first three beats of the measure with the "slap" and then give an imaginary "slap" on the fourth beat (you can easily hear the slap in the song). It's a metaphor for a person who is all over you - but you like it and that's why the singer asks, "is it hot in here or is it just me?". This is also the reason why, in spite of the underwater effects and the octopus metaphor, the singer is still "hot" - even under water! The spoken sections are not intended to be understood - I just included the lyrics for fun.

OCTOPUS SLAP

1. He?s in his little black cave; he?s undersea.
That?s where he likes to hang out.
He?s got a smile and eight arms, as you can see.
Let?s ask if he can come out.

2. He likes his little black cave, under the sea.
He takes an afternoon nap.
But when the octopus grins at you or me,
beware the octopus slap!

(SPOKEN) Generally when people sit this close they?re, well, you know, they have intentions. What are your intentions? Because you know, you are in my body bubble and I?m finding it all just the tiniest bit distracting. Is it hot in here or is it just me?

3. He likes to sit on his couch, as you can see.
He gives the cushion a tap.
He waves his arms with a smile: ?Sit next to me!?
Here comes the octopus slap!

Is it hot in here or is it just me? Baby... a little cave... he hangs out...

4. He?s taught you how to behave under the sea.
You know it?s really a snap.
You know when seven arms wave under the sea,
here comes the octopus slap!

(SPOKEN) You know I?m thinking maybe it would be a good idea if you were to scoot over there just a little bit because it is just way too easy for you to take advantage of my human weakness, you sitting here right next to me and it?s awfully hard to keep track of all those arms and I don?t even know if I want to.

5. He?s in his little black cave under the sea.
That?s where he likes to hang out.
He likes his little black cave under the sea.
That?s where he hangs out.

A little cave...he hangs out... Baby.
He?s in his little black cave...(Is it hot in here or is it just me?)... Baby.
A little cave...he hangs out...(It?s awfully hard to keep track of all those arms)... Baby.
A little cave...(I don?t even know if I want to)... he hangs out... Baby.
A little cave...he hangs out...( Is it hot in here or is it just me?)... Baby.
