Head On Down The Road

Story Behind The Song

This song was co-written with Ken Matthiesen. I had never written a blues song before but Ken's concept made it easy. His lyrics are always awesome.

Song Description

This song is about being homeless. Ken's lyrics were inspired by the dirty 30's but I think the song still rings true today.

Lyrics

The cold out in the street
Gets by my pint of gin
Tells me it's time to go
Forget about everything again

The fire in the barrel
Can't warm this worthless soul
Empty faces in my bottle
Always end up in control

(Chorus)
It's time to head on down the road
I won't stop until I get where I go
"Nice to meet you, my name is Johnny Doe"
The smile hurts but you never let it show

Drowned is the memory
Of the man I used to know
When it all gets too heavy
It's time for me to go

The fire in the barrel
We stand around and sing
Drawn to the devil
I can hardly feel a thing

(Chorus)
It's time to head on down the road
When I get there I'll be the last to know
"Nice to meet you, my name is Johnny Doe"
The smile hurts but you never let it show

(bridge)
Broken glass on the sidewalks along with shattered dreams
Every morning I wake up, I wonder where I've been

(outro)
It's time to head on down the road
Ahead of the cold
I feel it in my bones
Time to head it down the road
Ahead of the cold
Head on down the road

Nice arrangement and mix

I'm imagining this is influenced by old pre-Nicks/Buckingham Fleetwood Mac. Good vocals.

There's a nice feel to this tune and the organ adds a very nice touch. The vocal is clear and the guitar is nice and not over powering. Well done.

This is as smooth as smooth blues gets. It's a song about getting drunk and trying to forget...a sad subject, but it's portrayed so well. All aspects of this song stand out GREAT: The convincing vocals, stellar instrumentation and flawless production. There are some really great and original word pictures here...the shattered glass, fire in the barrel. Favorite lyric: Smile hurts...never let it show. The bridge is especially well written. The outro/ending is especially nicely executed. Great job!

Love the intro and the guitar riff. Strong lead vocal and backing vocals. Excellent musicianship throughout including the bass and drums. Nice phrasing touch at 'let it show'. Nice chord progression. Subtle but effective keyboard. This would sound great in a live setting.

Nice beginning ..great tone on the voice. well recorded and mixed. Good writing brother

Love the slide guitar and the mellow tone of the vocal - they suit each other. I like the catchy hook. The song fading at the end is effective. Good length. The instrumental version would be good in a soundtrack too. Nice tune - good luck with this!

Very cool sound in this epic blues record which sounds like a motion picture soundtrack

Really nice bluesy Rock country song about homelessness and what happens now...Some very good imagery that made it easy to understand..."fire in the barrel"...good stuff!

Solid performance for the genre. Smooth ambience, workable content for editing, and an ideal candidate for metadata searches. I'd hire you all to perform at a neighbourhood tavern provided you had a set to play.

I LIKE THE FEEL AND THE GROOVE AND THE LYRIC.

the instrumental was good

You've got something here! Recording is nice and balanced, vocals are spot on. This feels like to me an excellent track for film synch. Just has that cool smooth feeling to it, nicely done!!!

LIKE THE FEEL OF THIS AND THE HARMONIES AND WOULD BE GREAT TO DANCE TO. GOOD LYRICS

Nice driving Groove, Turn up that screaming guitar give it more power.

it was nice listening to the song ... just mild and a bit of a twist to the blues ...
