Story Behind The Song

This song makes cryptic allusions to important symbols of the Llanos, which are the great savannas of eastern Colombia. These symbols are the fishing net used by locals on the vast network of streams and rivers of the Llanos, and the red ibis, a stunning bird that is very characteristic of the Llanos. I grew up in the Llanos, and this song was inspired by my deep sadness about Colombia's difficult situation, and the fact that I could not visit the Llanos when I last went to Colombia because it would have been too dangerous.

Song Description

Approximate Translation Reasons Because my soul is prisoner to an enchantment, Because large fishing nets not only catch fish; If a soul gets caught in one, the fishing net will turn and torture it. Because live in a strange land and I am not at peace. Because the color of red ibises paints by-gone years and far-away savannas in my mind, Because they say that you can't live in my country due to the war. Some storms bring water for the streams. Others tear a nation wide apart and leave its souls unprotected. Because I live in a strange land , I am not at peace. Because they say that you can't live in my country due to the war.

RAZONES
(Author: Karin Stein, 1995)
