Story Behind The Song

I knew two young lovers who seemed perfect for each other. After a couple of years together one of them announced without any prior warning that the relationship was over. I spoke to the one who had been abandoned. This person was devastated, crushed and in a state of total shock. It was just so horribly painful to witness. I came home and wrote this song as a sort of aknowledgement of their agony. I know the story is hardly unique, but when rejection happens it feels like you're the only one in the world going through it and it's a universally awful experience.
