Story Behind The Song

There was a guy at college whom I had dated, and we broke up. He remained cool after the breakup, even distant. Then he started to pursue me as the school year went on, so we started to sleep together. He wasn't forthcoming with his feelings, but there was a niceness between us, and the physical connection was great. But on a day-to-day basis, even though we'd only see each other between classes, he couldn't muster a "hello". So, I thought it was strange and hypocritical of him, especially since, as he once said, he liked things "simple and true." He was always looking round the corner, worried he might be seen talking to me. I wrote this song with a "don't flatter yourself" attitude and I was frustrated at the time.
