Lyrics

Horse and dogs were my companions
We rode around Chandler Canyon
Way out on to Moonwater point Where it overlooks the Green Out there on the hillside
Found a little piece of heaven
That little piece of heaven's called, the
Anna Laura Springs.

Well the water there is clear and cool
It comes right from the ground
It's the only water, for miles and miles around
I pulled my saddle from the shade
Of some quaking aspen trees
To get away from, the afternoon sun
And drifted off to sleep

In my dream this little girl came skip'in down the trail
Humming birds and butterflies floated 'bout her like a veil
And in her hand she held, a beautiful red bouquet
Of Indian Paint Brush flowers, the little girl picked
While on her way

She came over and touched my shoulders
Quietly she asked
Who is it that you visit here?
Why do you trespass?
I told her that I stopped to draw a cool drink from the spring
Just to see the scenery, thought I'd rest awhile and dream

She said my name's Anna Laura; this beautiful place is mine
I've lived here all alone now for a very long, long time
My family was the first, to settle here and I was told
That there was an accident, when I was nine years old

You see I'd come to fetch my father
A cool clear drink of water
My pony ran, but stumbled and I fell beneath his feet
Despite all of their prayers
I died early the next morning
They laid me to rest upon this hill
And named the spring there, after me

She sat upon my lap
Talked of ribbons, lace, and rings
Rainbows and unicorns, a little girls dreams
Finally she said, I hope you visit here again
She kissed me on the cheek
And danced away upon the wind

Then I awoke and heard a child's laughter in the air
I searched around in vain, for nobody else was there
Though on the sodden mound
Where my saddle blankets lay
Were some Indian Paint Brush flowers
And little Anna Laura's grave

Horse and dogs were my companions
We rode around Chandler Canyon
Way out on to Moonwater Point, where it over looks the Green
And out there on the hillside
Found a little piece of heaven
That little piece of heaven's called, the Anna Laura Springs
