Story Behind The Song
My wife lived on a street called Carmelita Street when we were dating. I wrote the first verse in my head while walking there. The first recording of it was a birthday present for her. Originally just an acoustic tune I added a lot of atmospheric guitar sounds to beef up the texture and create mood.
Song Description
This is basically a love song. I didnt want to write and " I love you baby" song, so I used the idea of walking to Carmelita Street where your girl waits sitting on her doorstep to evoke the feeling of warmth that we all feel when someone loves us. The second verse describes hanging out with her on Carmlita street watching the rain over the cityscape, feeling mellow and happy.

Lyrics
Carmelita Street
Written by: John McDermott
The wind on Carmelita street
Is blowing soft and cool,
I walk in that direction
I'm as happy as a fool,
she sits upon her stoop
with her black hair like a crown,
and she smiles as I approach,
and says "I like you coming 'round",
ohh, she smiles as I approach,
and says "I like you coming 'round",
ahh ahh Oh Yeah x 3
The sky it cracks open
and the rain begins to fall,
beats a tatoo on the window
and it's running down the wall,
I gaze out at the city
through a hazy window pane,
as she sits beside me,
humming some old refrain
ohh she sits beside me,
humming some old refrain,
