Story Behind The Song

A girl who I used to flirt with as a young man on the town expressed an interest in taking things further. We got on really well as nothing but friends, nothing more as I was in a relationship. Eventually I became single & we saw each other briefly before she disappeared off the scene, not answering calls. I presumed it was over. A few months later I received a phone call out of the blue; it was her best friend explaining that the girl I'd been seeing had a brain tumour & didn't have long left. She told me that she'd been asked to call me & tell me that she would always love me. Unfortunately, she passed away soon after.

Song Description

A couple see each other as a passing acquaintance several times before gaining the courage to speak. They realise they get on really well & ultimately fall for one another. One of them however develops an illness & leaves the relationship, not wanting to cause hate. A year later one of them is on their death bed & their last request is for them to meet again so they can explain why they left. They die.
