Story Behind The Song

I really was terrified to give my life to God. (The twelve step programs put it like this, "Made a decision to turn your will and your life over to the care of God as you understood Him") To put your whole life into someone's hands is no small task and there can be some heart wrenching emotions involved. The church sometimes likes to leave that out in their evangelizing, OR, they have never turned their will and their life over to the care of God and have never really gone through the emotions of it. The other part of this scenario is that we really have to get to know Him before we are going to turn our life over to Him. I was blessed by the fact that nobody shoved religion down my throat as a child. My mother took us to the episcopal church and they just had prayers and stuff all written up and we just followed along in the book. The only problem was that my parents never told me anything about Jesus so I never incorporated any of what we did in church into my life. When my life started to be in chaos, I started to read the Bible and was really surprised at what it said. I read it for many years before I was led my an alcohol and family counselor to surrender my will to God. I was confident that I knew Him well enough at that point to take the plunge. After I did it, I wanted to get to know Him even more and I read the Bible more than ever.
