Story Behind The Song
After my older brother came to live with me when he was going through kidney cancer, we were remembering how we used to play pick-up baseball games with our friends when we were kids. So I wrote this song about it and mentioned both of my brothers in the song. My brother Steve died a few years later and my brother Robin recorded it for me.

Lyrics
When It Was A Game
Ev'ry summer mornin' we'd ride our bikes out to the field
One by one our friends would come, it still seems so real
We played the game for hours or 'til we knocked the cover off the ball
Up until September, that's what I recall
I tried to pitch like Koufax, Robbie thought he was Babe Ruth
He could hit some long ones, it wasn't that far from the truth
And when Steve stole a base he'd say Maury Wills is my name
Oh, I can still remember when it was a game
Chorus:
Oh, when it was a game we didn't make a million bucks
We all played the game for fun, we were baseball nuts
Tryin' to catch a fly ball like old Willie Mays
I can still remember when it was a game
My friends have all grown up now, we watch the games on TV
Some complain it's not the same with free agency
But when a batter hits the ball and you know he's got the range
I can still remember when it was a game
Repeat Chorus:
Bridge:
Well I know that things are diff'rent, don't know when they changed
But, I can still remember when it was a game
Repeat Chorus:
