Story Behind The Song
One year when I knew I wouldn't be able to make it home for Christmas, I wrote this song. My mother called me from Pennsylvania, while I was in Nashville and asked me if I was going to make it home this year. She started off by saying that my brother in Georgia was coming. I had to tell her no and when I hung up, as I was thinking about the holidays at home this song came to me.

Lyrics
Peace On Earth In Mama's House (Male or Female vocal)
About this time of year when the leaves have turned 'round here
Church bells are ringin' and Mama's on the line
She says "Hon or (Son), how've you been, your brother Steve is comin' in
Hope you can make the trip this time (it at Christmas time}."
Well, I can almost see her face, I'm gettin' closer to that place
Headin' out of Nashville on highway twenty-four
I can smell those pumpkin pies, brings the tears to my eyes
'Cause I know she'll be waitin' at the door
Chorus:
And there's peace on earth in my Mama's house
Good old country cookin' brings water to my mouth
I wish Daddy could see how we all turned out
When things seem the worst there's always peace on earth
Always peace on earth in Mama's house
Turn Around:
When this life gets to me and the things on TV
Get me started thinkin' and I feel like givin' up
I remember back home, then I pick up the phone
That's when I start packin' that old truck
Chorus:
Bridge:
Well, I see my brothers and sister up there now and then
We all agree, she's our closest friend
And it makes no (there ain't) diff'rence in the love that we share
We just thank the Lord, 'cause Mama's always there
Chorus: Revised
And there's peace on earth in my Mama's house
Good old country cookin', I wish I could be there now
'Cause when things seem the worst, I think of my home first
Where there's always peace on earth in Mama's house...
Yeah, there's always peace on earth...in Mama's ..house...
