Story Behind The Song
I was hoping to get someone in DC thinking about developing a new enlistment program-- something like workers who lose their jobs can enlist with an "easy-out" option, plus they would collect unemployment benefits while earning a (smaller) paycheck with the army. . . just a thought. ..
Song Description
I thought about so many Americans with thousands of lay-ofs looming. At the same time, I thought about unbelievable number of people who need help because of recent natural disasters in the States (and elsewhere). It seems that there should be a solution between people losing their jobs and the US Armed Forces utilizing all the talent that will become available.

Lyrics
He?s got a wife, a child on the way
Boss called him in, laid him off yesterday
He?s got a mortgage, he?s got a boat
He wants to scream but there?s a lump in is throat
She says, don?t worry and don?t be afraid
Let?s ask the Lord to tell us some more about the plans He has made
He smiles at her, she holds his hand
They shed some tears, but together they stand
Yeah, together they stand
Ooh, ooh, it?s gonna be alright
Ooh, ooh, we?re gonna make it through the night
yeah we?ll have a brand new day, come the morning light
It?s gonna be alright
It?s gonna be alright
He talks to Fred, he calls up Joe
Seems that the company let ?em all go
Soon all the lawyers are there to blame
Whoever can pay for this capital shame
He says, man, this is crazy, this could take years
I?ll spend my time helping with the Army?s Corp of Engineers!
He?s got a paycheck, it?s guaranteed
He?s helping people while he earns a degree
Everyday heroes in the home of the free
Refrain
So much is given, so much is due
So many fortunate like me and you
So many soldiers know what it means
To live and die for the American dream
They live and die for the American dream
You know it?s time to stand and be strong
It?s clear--it?s the diff?rence between right and wrong
He did his duty, he served with pride
American values, can?t be denied
American values that can?t be denied
Ooh, ooh, it?s gonna be alright
Ooh, ooh, we?re gonna make it through this fight
yeah we?ll let freedom ring, come the dawn?s early light
It?s gonna be alright
It?s gonna be alright
