Story Behind The Song

My dad asked me to write him a song. He didn't specify what about, he just wanted me to write. I thought about the things I remembered most about time spent with him over my lifetime. One of the first things that came to mind was toe dancing with dad in the living room when I was very small. The rest blossomed from there. We've had many conversations about a variety of things over the years from missing my sister while she was away at college to my classes at school, relationships, music, etc. He was always willing to give me guidance and encouragement - and still does. Unlike in the song, my dad has not yet passed on. However, writing this song gave me the opportunity to reflect upon my relationship with him and the influence he has had in my life. I know when the time comes for him to return home, like it does for us all, I will be grateful for the friendship we share.

Song Description

This song tells the story of a father and daughter beginning with her infancy, moving through the different phases of her life including childhood (where the real toe dancing happens), young adulthood, and adulthood. The song continues with the father's aging then passing and concludes with the daughter's reflection on the loving relationship with her father. He will always be her dad.
