Story Behind The Song
Being poor and in love at Christmas.
Song Description
This song starts out with a spoken vocal and sleigh bells that together set a festive Christmas mood.
As the srings come in, the lyrics and melody begin to tell the familiar tale of
UNEMPLOYMENT, DEBT, and the challenge of buying gifts for a loved one while facing ECONOMIC HARDSHIP.
A song of desperation quickly turns into a profession of love - "a gift that will last forever " even though there aren't any presents under the Christmas tree. The churning rhythm ,catchy chorus, and soaring vocal leave the listener hopeful and optimistic by the song's end.
The sound of this recording bears resemblance to some of the wonderful Ronette's Christmas recordings of the 1960's by producer Phil Spector. But "Underneath The Christmas Tree" also has a certain freshness to it that makes it relevant for the 21st century. The result is timeless !

Lyrics
UNDERNEATH THE CHRISTMAS TREE
( by Jesse Dee / C. 2009 , Sinceri-Dee Music, SESAC )
intro:
Here comes Christmas, on it's way
It's getting closer everyday
The colored lights are all a glow
The weatherman's predicting snow
The tree is trimmed and shining bright
Those ornaments are hung just right
And up on top a star stands tall
But underneath there's nothing , nothing at all
Verse:
I thought that there'd be plenty
But my pockets are empty
The steady job I had is gone
That's what I was counting on
My bank account has run out
My credit card is maxed out
Bills keep on piling up
I wish that I was better off, 'cause -
Chorus
There won't be much to see
Underneath the Christmas tree
I know that's not the way
That you want it to be
For whatever it is worth
The only thing that I can do
Is wrap my love, and give it all to you
Verse:
I can't afford a diamond ring
Or any of those fancy things
But what I have to give will grow
It will last forever, even though -
Chorus
There won't be much to see
Underneath the Christmas tree
I know that's not the way
That you want it to be
For whatever it is worth
The only thing that I can do
Is wrap my love, and give it all to you
(I'm gonna wrap up all my love
I'm gonna give it to you
It's the only thing that I can do)
I'm gonna wrap with a ribbon, tie with a bow
I'm gonna give it, give it to you
