Lyrics

Cross the Colorado
Jeffrey W Posey

Well I crossed the Colorado four times today
Had to beg a State Trooper "let me on my way"
Saw the Runnels County jail and I paid the man
I'd do it all again to ask for her hand

I drove 700 miles, left at 4 am
Tonight I'll drink up the courage to call her sister again
But today was just the road and the dog and me
And her mama's blessing is what I need

Oh, Colorado if you knew where I'd been
You'd know why I crossed you time and again
I've got one second chance to get it right
I'd cross a thousand rivers to make her my wife

Poured another cup of coffee at San Angelo
Gave her mom another call to see if she'd
be home If she wondered what the hell I was doing there
Well, I never knew it, I was too damn scared

And it crossed my mind a hundred times today
Had I really thought enough about what I'd say
Would her mama give her blessing with an easy heart
Knowing lovin' me is so damn hard

I've been watchin' a storm in my rearview mirror
But ahead the sun's risin', the skies are clear

Well I crossed the Colorado four times today
Lookin' back I don't know what I said anyway
But I never saw her mama look so pretty and proud
I never heard my heart pounding so loud
