Lyrics

Which and When
©Jeffrey C. Ashbaker 9-2013

If I had another story, I could sing it just as well
A dark symbolic allegory, of heaven or of hell
So when you listen in the moment, you might think that it was true
And if you claim it, you might own it, as the words come back to you

---Chorus---
So say hello or say goodbye
I guess the question's which and when
Do I keep the old fire burning
For a stranger or a friend
Oh Which and When
Oh Which and When
-----------------
I've watched the sunrise blazing, raising my spirit with the light
And I've felt the days end sunset, enslave me to the night
So if you need a revelation, how the hell can I explain
Even after transformation, dead and alive are not the same
--Repeat Chorus--
I come to town essential for the custom, expecting to be fed
I show respect among the living, by living on the edge
So just invite me to the party, if I can make it, I might show
And if you need a better reason, I guess the tide must ebb to flow
--Repeat Chorus--
-End-

There is a great feel to the song. Almost an Eagles kind of feel. The instrumentation carried the song well and the rhythm was captivating. Great work.

Nice harmonies. Wicked "wah" playing.

Definitely and interesting song that might require a few listens and some abstract to concrete thinking to figure out what the songwriter is trying to communicate. But songwriter says it's an allegory, so that's that! Great sing-able melody and hook. Love the vocals and harmonies on the "which and when" repeats. Nice intro. Drums sound great. Creative and original. I like it! Good ending.

Enjoyed this with some reservation

I liked this from the first note...not hard to write a review for a song that grabs you from the first .....love the harmony...loved! loved! this song...vocal smooth flows into you, well done.

I thing most of the instruments were very well played, I liked the acoustic guitar most, and the harmonies with the vocals. The lead vocalist had a nice voice that had a great tone in general that I really liked.

rocky sound for folk, nice harmonies and guitar

Good blend of acoustic and electric guitars. Laid back vocal with very effective subtle harmonies. Clever lyrics well written and delivered without pushing the 'I've got a message' thing too far. I liked this song a lot, thanks.

a rock/ folk track with a bit of a country feel.
simple melody that works. the lead guitar throughout is different. somehow it works. , liked the chorus that was very different . subtle backing vocals enhance that well.
good track i enjoyed listening.

Very atmospheric track well delivered and played. Good lead guitar-work.

A wonderful sound, both voice and music, I don't even mind the incessant drum beat - it fits and does not overpower the song. Clever lyrics - hard to choose amongst them the right ones for a title.
A song with with wit and a delicious rhythm. I like it a lot.
