Used To Be

I saw Merry and I saw Joan
And I felt the love for him on his journey back home
But I want to cry, and I wonder why
It's so hard to smile, when you say goodbye

I saw Tony and I saw Jim
Tell a story and we laughed about him
Yeah, it's been a while, since those days went by
And it's hard to laugh, but it made me smile

---Chorus---
Used to be, used to be
All of you and all of me
Long ago, long ago
So far away, it's hard to know
Are you still you, Am I still me
Was this all real or a memory
-------------

I saw love and I saw loss
Often wondered where (why) the two of these must cross
'Cause it's in disguise, yeah it's in the sky
But it's made smile and it's made me cry
Now I think I'll laugh, from down deep inside

---Repeat Chorus---

I saw Merry and I saw Joan
But I can't go back and I can't go home
Was I left behind, am I on my own
I don't feel the fear of the great unknown
And it's plain to see that I'm not alone
Yeah we can all relax, 'cause we're not alone

always good stuff from you and this song is no exception

good vocals and harmonies

Great song, loved the way it moved and swayed. Instrumentation was spot on and the singer has a great tone. Very well done.

I thought the lyrics were clever and heart felt. I enjoyed the song. The singer's tone was wonderful. Took me on a journey of my own memories too. I'd say this is definitely marketable. Could see it used in any western TV or Film. Made me think of Yellowstone the series. And I could see it in a feature film as well, not even necessarily for a western, but maybe just a reflection scene. Nice work!

Great chorus. I loved "Used to be all of you and all of me" Great line about loss.

This is in no way a criticism of the song - I'm not sure about the story line and wonder if the writer's at a funeral. The reason its not a criticism is that makes me want to hear the song more than once. I don't like songs that hit you over the head with the obvious. This is more mysterious. Makes me want to hear more.

Its not clear if the song writer is also the performer, but I love the guy's voice and the recording.

strong song. everything seems to be there. here they be a long timer. I hear a lot of Nashville in here. I spent some great time in Memphis recording. great engineering on this.

Vocal very pleasant...harmony with female vocalist gives a nice depth to this song.

A very pleasant listen, nice song. Excellent vocals, though I wish they were brought up in the mix a bit. Excellent instrumentation, almost understated though. I wanted to hear that violin and mandolin more. Why not feature them in an instrumental section?

reminiscent of Orbison at times, similar vibe, which i like allot, pretty well done production, fiddle and harmony nice indeed. melodically well done.

Pleasant song, pleasant voice. The percussion gets a little carried away, as often happens in folk and country songs, and the drums drown out the singer. The words are important in folk music, and the words of this song deserve to be heard.

What a great journey this songs takes you on. Home run all the way around.

Really nice track......very nostalgic ........very thought provoking lyrics.......nice fiddle........enjoyed it.......
