Lyrics

The Art Is What We Hear (c) Jeff Ashbaker 909-793-0245

The backbone of America, polluted by itself
Smoke stacks play the music, highstrung tweeters cry for help
You dabble in confusion to create this sorted scene
I see teddy bears and puppy dogs and animals with dreams

Teeth just made for smiling, egg-shaped eyeballs tend to pop
Electronical devises make our msuic blow its' top
I took it one step further to read the writings on the wall
But came back with no sense of it , if sense it made at all

--Chorus-------------
But the colors come together and the vision is quite clear
For anyone who listens with the celebrated ear
But even if we whisper in a voice to hide our fear
Soon we will discover that the art is what we hear
--------------------------

A hat upon a rider, upon a horse, upon a plane
Looking for the answer in the canvas on this frame
I tried to speak to freedom, but no reason did I find
Maybe there's some reason for the freedom of this rhyme

As different as each image is , the same we all shall be
If looking at this picture, lord, the picture's all we see
The deeper in that we may go, to the shallow we may run
For everything this painting says, it says, the artist had some fun

-Repeat Chorus- x 2

Soon we will discover that the artist brought us "hear"
Soon we will discover why the artist brought us here.

love the song. well done

Art and music come together in this folk song. With a simple guitar accompaniment, the song describes a painting, makes some interesting observations, and concludes that the artist had fun. There are some great, original word pictures in here. My favorite: smokestacks play the music (excellent imagery).

Nice vocal.

Enjoyable little tune, very licensable! You should pitch this one if you aren't already!

Great lyrics , they reminded me of something that my idol (Harry Chapin) , would have written.

Cool song, moves really smoothly through its changes. Love the sound of the guitars, very mellow and hormonic. Lyrics are deep and reflective and surprisingly poppy and upbeat. Great over all presentation. Love the sound and feel of this song. I think I heard just a hint of Irish folk peaking through. Great song thanks for sharing it.

I like uptempo message songs. The vibe on this tune is really infectious. I hear a hint of Black Water by the Doobies. You have a very strong folk tune here. I bet it goes over very well in live performances. Lead vocal is assertive and clear. The additional female voice gives it a little extra vibe towards the fabulous 60s. REALLY GOOD WORK!!!

Me again Jeff! Really cool song.....lyrics are very imaginative and creative....some wonderful poetic images and dabs of humor! Vocal is good......just the right attitude! Very well done!!

Really good song with a really good message and a steady, driving beat. Well constructed and well instrumented. Sounds a little like Harry Chapin meets Jim Croce.

I enjoyed this very much. Great words and rhythm through out the song. Great feel and great job.

Catchy beat and melody! Definite "classic" folk group feel ie: Brother's Four, Kingston Trio.Clever lyrics tell a good story. Good smooth guitar work right on the money beat wise. Lead vocal voice very appealing and easy to listen to. Newer than only the classic old style, moves toward "new folk!"

The vocalist is very talented and has a pleasant tone. this song has a 60s folk vibe to it and really has potential in film. Although there are no surprises, It's recorded well and the arrangement is spot on.

Appealing vibe and interesting lyrics.

I think the recording is the only thing holding this song back. I really like the vocalist. has a really cool storytelling feel, true folk. I like the groove and the way the verse and chorus play off of that rhythm. The harmony in the chorus is really cool as well. Great tune!

I like the idea, voice, tympo, and most of the lyrics.

I love the bounce to the song. Like looking out the window from a train or bus seat while riding down the road. "everything this painting says is the artist had some fun" great line. Could we ask more?

G'day. Great lively song, sung well and recorded well. Would love to read the lyrics to this one. You have an excellent voice for this genre and that acoustic guitar sounds lovely. Good work, well done.

Great structure. Nailed the genre. Lyrics are obviously well crafted. I enjoyed it very much.

Was very pleasant and calm, nice lyrics and a good quality tone
