Slow Burn
©Jeffrey C. Ashbaker 2-5-2017

I'm older than my father was, on the day he left this Earth
And I'm younger than I'll ever be, but I'm not sure what that's worth
There are, many things I'm conscience of, but I still don't understand
But life without a legacy is like a sailor on dry land, who's in command

--- Chorus ---
I can face the fight, I can race the night, I can chase the light
I shall return, Na Na Na, Na Na Na
But I'd better think twice, if I roll the dice, Can I pay the price
It's not black, it's not white, it's not day, it's not night, it's not love at first sight
It's a slow ~~burn
-----------------

It's hard to be a songwriter, in a town that's full of ghosts
Where all the words are taken, all the rhymes have been exposed
It's hardly worth explaining, that's there's nothing left to say
I might try again tomorrow, but I'm giving up today, anchors away

-Repeat Chorus-
-Instrumental Chorus-

-Bridge-
No one can ever get out
I never had any doubt
It works within and without
--------------
-Repeat Chorus-

-End-
No strings attached, I shall return
Three on a match, it's a slow~~burn
------------------------------

Rare quality in this song is how compelling the first line is--- then the rest of the verse delivers with setting the entire theme-- and the wordsmithing is unique, relatable, and no cliche's --- I really appreciate attention to nuance in the lyrics -- the second verse then proves my intuition because you exactly dictate the songwriter's quest and I can tell it is 100% true for you because of how well the first verse was crafted --- Guitar work is fantastic lots of skill on display -- vocals are great, suit the style perfectly -- it is an easy listen in terms of flowing with enough familiar elements to make it simple to take in - I mean this in a good way, songs too complex or unique musically are not appreciate in the first listen -- Good work, I am going to seek out more of your stuff because I love good lyric writing----

Cool guitar playing

Cool country blues. Well produced and well delivered.

Like the Intro. It sounds reminiscent of Harry Chapin... back in the days of free love late 60-75ish. Cool VIBE folks!

Terrific country-blues tune. Wicked Lead WahWah Guitar. Beautiful imagery.

great song, and performance , love the western vibe.

The song was well done instrumentally and vocally. Production was clean and the wah guitar was cool. It sounded retro to the sixties and seventies era. Good job.
