Duck Blind

Story Behind The Song

I have hunted with my brother-in-laws and have experienced this second hand. Both brothers had done this with their grandfather and are just super passionate about hunting for ducks...a passion often not seen when they do anything else! I figured if they love doing this so much others must love this just as well so I wanted to write a story about it in a song. It wasn't easy to write, but after a while it just flowed. And YES my brother-in-law did spend time with a girl in the duck blind! unbelieveable... :)

Verse 1
I remember just like it was yesterday
That rainy morning and the foggy haze
Grandpa came in with his 16 guage for me
He said I?ve got this spot that you can barely see
Out on the point by the old oak tree
Grab this gun and your dog so you and me can beat the sunrise

Pre-Chorus:
We walked down there, put up a spread, we sat still watching over our heads

Chorus:
We shed some tears and we shared some laughs
Hiding there behind the tall brown grass
The best time I could ever find
Happened early that morning in our duck blind

Verse 2
The first time with a girl rounding second base
She had a southern draw and an angel?s face
So I wanted to show my favorite place to her
That summer night it was perfectly clear
I held her tight and whispered in her ear
?If it?s alright with you we can stay right here until the sunrise?

Pre-Chorus:
We laid down in our homemade bed, counting the stars falling over our head

Chorus: (change to happened that summer night)

Verse 3
I married that girl with the angel?s face
We had a boy and I could hardly wait
At age fourteen I showed my favorite place to him
Early one morning I woke him up
I passed on grampa?s gun with a black lab pup
I said train him well son and when your done meet me at sunrise

Pre-Chorus:
That day came and he ran down with a smile on his face like he was wearing a crown

Chorus (original)
