Superhero

Story Behind The Song

The idea of the song came up when I recognized how I always try to save people, to my own detriment sometimes, and how I long to put myself first for once. The move to talk about a superhero was a natural progression.

Song Description

The singer is a superhero (or sees himself as such), and has grown tired of the roll. He's ready to hang up his cape, and hide his mask, in order to live a normal life. How can he help the world if he can't help himself?

Lyrics

I'm hanging up my cape
Hiding my mask at the back of my sock drawer
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

Parking the supermobile
Trade it in for a hatchback or a 4-door
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

I've spent my life, being there for others
Giving and giving, 'til I had no more to give.
I'll tell you something, if I had my druthers
It's not a life I'd relive.

Being a hero and a buck gets you coffee,
Though it might look good on my resume.
I save the damsels, I blush when they kiss me
But that won't get me laid.

I'm hanging up my cape
Hiding my mask at the back of my sock drawer
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

Parking the supermobile
Trade it in for a hatchback or a 4-door
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

What's the compulsion? What's the reason?
Why must I answer every call?
I must get off on people pleasin'
But who will catch me when I fall?

I've got to give it up, or so my shrink tells me.
It sounds easy, but it's really damn hard.
I'm sick and tired, no wife, no family,
Explaining why I wear leotards.

I'm hanging up my cape (The cape is so cliche)
Hiding my mask at the back of my sock drawer
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

Parking the supermobile (Better take off the plates)
Trade it in for a hatchback or a 4-door
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

I can't save the world without some help.
How can I save the world when I can't save myself?

I'm hanging up my cape (The cape is so passe)
Hiding my mask at the back of my sock drawer
What the hell am I being a superhero for?

Parking the supermobile (Better take off the plates)
Trade it in for a hatchback or a 4-door
What the hell am I being a superhero for?
