If You Know What I Mean

Story Behind The Song

This song is a combination of a conversation I had with a friend about a woman we observed and created a story about, due to the lines of pain etched into her face. She looked like a truck-stop whore, so to speak. Her eyes were hardened. Also, it's about a friend of mine who made many self-destructive choices in her life, and is still very much alone.

Song Description

This song is about a women who had a hard life and you can see it etched in the lines of her hardened face. She probably worked in truck-stop coffee shops and fed the cat in the back alley. She won't let anyone inside her heart even though she longs to, Too afraid probably due to childhood abuse. She's a person who self-destructs and has no self worth.

Don?t go, don?t leave me alone, don?t go..
Down, down dirty dust roads
Pit stops along the road to nowhere
I was good at procuring friends, if you know what I mean

I knew how to turn a cheek
Catch an eye, no need to speak
And I was fast at breaking bonds, if you know what I mean

Come along, come along, come and see epic loneliness
See the freak show of a woman bent
On the edge of her own self-destruction
Ready to jump where there?s no net
Come along, come along, now we?re living in the moment
Dancing to the beat of our beating hearts
By the time we?re done, you?ve had your fill of closeness
When you close the door, I fall apart
Don?t go, don?t leave me alone, don?t go..

Ooo oo oo, oooooo oo oo oo

So I walk through back alleyways
Sunglasses on, I?m in darkness and shade
Time has taken it?s toll on me, if you know what I mean

Come along, come along, come and see epic loneliness
See the freak show of a woman bent
On the edge of her own self-destruction
Ready to jump where there?s no net
Come along, come along, now we?re living in the moment
Dancing to the beat of our beating hearts
By the time we?re done, you?ve had your fill of closeness
When you close the door, I fall apart
Don?t go, don?t leave me alone, don?t go..
