Story Behind The Song

This song is about my ex-girlfriend and the growing influence her parents had over our relationship. For them I was quite simply the wrong color for their daughter. I found that despite my respectful, honest actions, I could do nothing to sway a view that was deeply ingrained in these two individuals. Ultimately, this matter contributed to the ultimate demise of the relationship.

Song Description

This song is about prejudice and how it divides us. My first real encounter with racism was a big wake-up call because it affected something I cared about, a relationship I had in college.

Lyrics

It seems that I've overstayed my welcome,
Their tinted gaze reads like a novel,
In my dreams you overcome their limitations,
But I have paid too much to feel like a robber 'cause,

One on one we seem fine right here,
Right in this moment in nowhere,
When we're done dreaming our future's clearer,
We'll wake up alone knowing that we're...

Over getting over boundaries that shouldn't be,
I'm under the impression their possession makes you see,
Color, like pie charts trivialize, divide us by,
Color,

They say your family will always be there,
And it's true, may not always be me with you,
But you never know what you might have lost because you're so scared,
Can parents who love you fear that you've found true love?
