Park Bench

Story Behind The Song

I was talking to a friend one day about writing a story about an inanimate object that she could give human traits to and she told me I should write a song like that as well. I automatically thought about a park bench that I've gone to over the past few years. It's a beautiful spot where I like to go to be alone and think. I came up with the lyrics to go along with a tune a wrote on the ukulele a couple of months earlier.

Song Description

The song tells about my quiet spot when I go to think. It breaks down three different reasons why I would need to go to my park bench and find peace. The first verse is personal to me because I often get frustrated and feel like I can't keep up with others around me and everyone knows that life gets too busy at times. It can be nice to take a break from those situations, have some quiet time and then feel like you can handle things again. The second verse shares how intimidated I get around other people, and sometimes I'd prefer to only share talents with my park bench because there is no judgment there. The third verse that I share captures how I like these visits to my park bench to be typical, casual occurrences. As a young adult, I feel like I constantly need to find time to make the next life decision.

Lyrics

The world seems oftly dizzy as it's spinning there in space
And people speed right past me, while my shoes are still unlaced
And maybe I'm not suited here to keep up with the chase
So I'll just mosey down the road, to find my secret place
I slow my pace at my park bench

I'm purely, strictly terrified to play in front of crowds
I'm sure these folks are nice enough, but I'm not ready now
Cause I still make mistakes and well, for me that's not allowed
I know I'm only human, but I'm one that's all too proud
I only sing out loud at my park bench

(Bridge)
Here, the grass grows green and skies are blue
Life still gives me choices to pursue
I'll stop by and we can talk it through
All these years, I still feel safe with you

So I'll come here in the morning and I'll read a book till noon
I'll ponder all my dreams and then I'll hum a funny tune
I'll unwind all my questions cause my mind won't make the room
And then I'll wait till twilight and get answers from the moon
I'll come back soon to my park bench
