Right Before Your Eyes

Story Behind The Song

The title lyrics pretty much already existed with a weak melody and chord progression. The acoustic guitar riff for the verse came much later, with an obvious chorus, and rather than struggle with lyrics, I went back through my notebook looking for lyrics that had something compelling to them, that would complement the music. Some tweaking, writing, editing and here we are!

Lyrics

You wrestle with reality
Molding it to meet your needs
But what you see ain?t always what you get

You hold your tongue and bite your lip
sparks fly from your fingertips
Fold your hand or finally place your bet

You?ve been told the Way?s so near
Shift your gaze, it will appear
It?s closer to you than your very breath

Suckered in by tasty lies
the wool?s been pulled across your eyes
Way past time to wipe out all your debts

Pre-refrain a:
But now, you?ve got to turn around
Head for higher ground
Walk this path you?ve found

Only one way out of here
Face it now and fight your fear
Every moment brings a final choice

Deep inside the battle zone
You don?t need to fight alone
hidden in the silence find your voice

repeat pre-refrain a
Refrain:
It?s right before your eyes (4 times)

One less verse and off we go
This can?t be a one-man show
You?ve got to open up and let them in

Brothers, sisters, priests and friends
Join together hand in hand
Bear each other?s burdens ?til the end

But now, you?ve got to turn around
Head for higher ground
Walk this path you?ve found

And now, you?ve got to finally see
It?s plain to you and me
Who you were meant to be

It's right before your eyes...
