The Edge

Story Behind The Song

One summer I had a crush on a wild kid who sort of lived on the edge, so to speak. I was at the beach, swimming in the ocean and saw a bouy I wanted to swim to, and thought, that boy is the only person who's crazy enough to swim out there with me. So I just started singing the chorus, that I want someone who'll take me to the sea and swim out as far as he can with me. I'm really glad I didn't drown. Later the verses came, and it turned out brilliantly.

Lyrics

You can't say you're done
Until you've found The One
And we've all had different times
There's always been one or another from time to time
And we classify them in our minds

The first one, the bad one
The one who got away
The last one, already had one
The one you hope'll return someday
The one who makes you better
The one who sent that poisoned letter
The one you sing to in the shower
The one you talk to hour after hour
We talked for hours on end

I want the one who'll take me to the sea
And swim out as far as he can with me
I want the one who'll take me to The Edge

The one who leaves you hanging by a thread cuts you lose
The one whose loves sustaining
Relieves any fear of abuse
The one who reached into your heart and tossed it to the dogs
The one you thought was smart but couldn't comprehend
Your famous monologues
Couldn't comprehend you, but I do

I want the one will take me to the sea And swim out as far as he can with me
I want the one who'll take me to The Edge
I want the one will take me to the sea And swim out as far as he can with me
I want the one who'll take me to The Edge

Doing it almost didn't meet
That the rest now can't compare
The one who swept you off your feet
Over the moon to walk on air
The one who would follow you anywhere

I want the one who will take me to the sea swim out as far as he can with me
I want the one who will take me to the sea
And swim out as far as far can be
Oh come on, let me take you
To The Edge
