Song Description

It's all about people struggling to survive and how important it is for all of us to care about each other as much as we care about ourselves.

Story Behind the Song

I wrote this song back in 1983, observing the state of the economy and the struggles of people who were unemployed. I pulled it out in 2013 and realized that the content was still applicable, today. I recorded it just the way I intended for it to sound when I wrote it.

Lyrics

Still Kickin' © 1983 David W. Folsom

Rented rooms, smoky afternoons
Down the rain-drenched streets of yesterday
Ain't it funny how it looks so much the same today

Cotton pickin', I'm still kickin'
I'm pickin' up pieces from the broken crust
'Coz I know where we're goin', baby, we're all dust

Well, we all need love
And we all need care
Forget about yourself and think of someone else
We might get somewhere

Unemployment, no enjoyment
Does it make you happy singin' the blues
Won't you wipe the dust from off of your shoes if you have them

High inflation is devastatin'
Makes it so much harder just to stay alive
When you got no bread, how do you survive?

Well, we all need love
And we all need care
Forget about yourself and think of someone else
We might get somewhere (Repeat)

People beggin', shoulders shruggin'
All they need is somethin' to eat
'Coz they ain't got no holy meat

Well, we all need love
And we all need care
Forget about yourself and think of someone else
We might get somewhere (Repeat)
I said forget about yourself and think of someone else,
We might get somewhere
