Story Behind The Song
I had just left an 11 year tumultuous marriage to someone who was very controlling. He made all of my decisions about almost everything. What to cook, what to wear, what to sing, and how to sing it.
One day while sitting on the beach, my first trip ever away from him I suddenly realized that it was my turn to make all of the decisions about me. Those thought alone were the impetus for the lyrics. Once the lyrics came the basic melody wasn't far behind. I got up, ran to a coffee across the street, borrowed a pen from the owner and quickly wrote down the lyrics on the back of one of the coffee shop business cards. Thus, É Minha Vez (It's My Turn) was born.
