Whoever Said it Never Rains in California

Story Behind The Song

It was Thanksgiving day some years ago and having just moved to sunny Southern California from Illinois, I found myself heading south on highway 101 in my old convertible Chevy heading to some friend of a friend who half-heartedly extended an invite saying that no one should be alone on Thanksgiving. Just as I was making it through Ventura it started raining as hard as I have ever experienced. The wipers couldn't whisk the water away fast enough to even see the lights in front of me and the water just poured through the gaps in the convertible top soaking me and everything in the car. It was at that very moment that I realized that the grass is never greener and I don't think I ever felt as alone and duped by my own delusions of what life had in store for me.

Lyrics

Whoever Said it Never Rains in California?

Chorus
Whoever said it never rains in California
and whoever said that life is one big happy song
whoever said it never rains in California
I get the feeling I've been away too long

Traveling down Ventura highway
The sound of the road reminds me I'm all alone
Thinking about the tears you left in my doorway
and trying to remember the words you spoke on the phone

Chorus
Whoever said it never rains in California
and whoever said that life is one big happy song
whoever said it never rains in California
I get the feeling I've been away too long

Thinking about my life
And all the choices I made within it
Looking back there's only two things I don't regret
The first one is traveling down that highway westward
The second one is crying when I left

Chorus
Whoever said it never rains in California
and whoever said that life is one big happy song
whoever said it never rains in California
I get the feeling I've been away too long

Love harmonies and enjoyed the vocals and harmonies with the chorus. Also really enjoyed the instrumental sections very much. Like the uplifting feeling despite some sad messages in the lyrics; leaves the song hopeful.
