Story Behind The Song
When I was stationed at Ft Campbell KY, I lived in the barracks between Kansas and Colorado streets on the base. This song is about the relationship that ended soon after my joining the Army and was more about a personal exorcism than a real cry for lost love.

Lyrics
The Day Before You Said Goodbye by Eric Robert Kiefer
Lost somewhere between Kansas and Colorado
About an hour out of Nashville Tennessee
Thinking back to a time when I could still call you mine
And to the way the ocean gently kissed the shoreline
The summers that we spent down by the sea
Now I lie awake at night just wanting to hold you tight
And I hear she's living somewhere out near Aspen
On a mountain top so high above the land
And that's a dream we both had waited on forever
But, ending up alone's not what I planned
Then I felt the weight of the world crash on my shoulders
Right where the tears fell when you cried...
The day before you said goodbye
Music break
Oh, and I didn't want the miles to come between us
Oh, but I ran out of pretty words to say
But, it hurt most when you said you knew I tried
The day before you said goodbye
(Good-bye) The day before you said goodbye
(Good-bye) The day before you said goodbye
(Good-bye) The day before you said goodbye
(Good-bye) The day before you said goodbye
