Souvenirs

Story Behind The Song

My boyfriend was going to Iceland and I decided to write a song for him to listen to while he was there. The song is about travel, waiting for someone to come home & hoping they find things that they love there. I also tried to reference Iceland in the lyrics, especially with "days that end with the setting sun and you wonder where your time has gone", that references how short the days are in Iceland and how you need to pack in as many activities as you can during those few hours of sunlight. The lyrics "stack your things upon the other" pretty much reference packing. Once you know the story behind the song, the lyrics begin to make a bit more sense.

Lyrics

Verse: Stack your things upon the other
Map out all the ground to cover
Take off, set sail
Ride the waves on the ocean's tail

Verse: Bring back your souvenirs
I feel the days slip into years
I'll see you when the fog clears
I'll be waiting right here

Chorus: Find the places no one else has seen
Find the things that show you where you've been
Find the parts that gave you all
the help that you could need
Find yourself, for me

Verse: Bring back every photograph
Tell me stories make me laugh
Days that end with the setting sun
And you wonder where your time has gone
Every step that you've begun
Is one more step you've taken
