This Time

Story Behind The Song

I have been privileged to witness such change in people, and this inspired the song.

Song Description

This song is about a man who has been neglectful and self-indulgent. His main vices are drinking and gambling. Yet his wife has always been hopeful he will change, and so she has stayed in the marriage. Finally, one night he has an epiphany, noticing her tears, he resolves to change. He has tried before, but "this time" is different because it finally dawns on him how much he has hurt her and how much she loves and believes in him.

Lyrics

This Time
Music and Lyrics by Eric James Albertson, Copyright 2006,
From the Collection: ?The Ballads, Volume Five?

This time is gonna be a little different than all the times before.
This time I?m gonna make some changes so you won?t walk out that door.
This time is gonna be the last time mascara tears will stain the satin white upon
your pillow,
?Cause this time it seems it finally hit me, my baby?s a weeping willow.

This time I?m gonna say goodbye to the bottle that bends my brain.
And say hello to the love that the whiskey and the gamblin? wasted away.
This time I?m gonna make the nighttime the right time for loving you not leaving
you alone.
And this time is gonna be the sometime you been waiting for so long?
?this time.

Staring at my moldy mirror, these bloodshot eyes see a train-wrecked soul.
This stubble on my face, and these cigarettes, have got to go.
Change don?t come easy, but I?m gonna break away from this path of destruction;
Gotta leave this heartache junction behind.

Instrumental

This time is gonna be the first time you wake up to my kiss upon your cheek and
hear ?I love you?.
And I?m gonna bring you roses Darling, and hold your hands and promise to be
true.
Please trust me to follow through this time.

This time is gonna be the start of a brand new day.
And this time I finally appreciate that you never left me, and walked away.
