Working Man's Lament

Story Behind The Song

I've been broke. Need I say more?

Song Description

The Working Man's Lament, is that of the struggle of trying to get ahead in life. Just to make enough money to enjoy a little bit of real life. And I don't mean working your ass off. This song is about every American man and woman and their respective jobs that they hate. I'm the musician singing to them all, letting them know, they're not alone.

Lyrics

Is there just no way that you could put my mind at ease - You see I'm working 16 hours a day and getting paid pennies
But if I had just enough cash to get myself away from this place
I'd get out so fast, in a flash that I'd break a horses pace

But I know that I won't
Cause it's just a joke
To think about it
When you're this damn broke
And I'm so deep in debt
That my hair's getting wet
On the very tip top of my head

(Chorus)
So I scream out loud to the crowd every night
About the men who fight just to get through this life
And then I play out loud to the crowd the sad lament
Of the man just working for what's already spent
He goes home to his wife every night but she's been working too
and they're barely just getting through
And Everybody's doing what anybody can do but
But still don't you wish you knew this wasn't true for you, Yeah don't you?

And is there just no one out there that could save my soul - Cause I keep on runnin' down this broken road, but I don't know where it goes

But they say there's light at the end of this mess
But I keep running out of breath

And I'm holdin on, but I can't hold on long
Trying to live on these songs,

And so I
(Chorus)

And there's no way out for me
The man who just can't seem to believe

That there's a million other ways out there to make ends meet

Cause I'm overdrawn all the time always spending the credits last dime
I'm barely squeezing by trying to get right so I--

(Chorus)
