Song Description

A dark and emotional piano ballad with lush, full string arrangement. This song deals with feelings of regret, self-loathing, and a fear of love, but also a desire to heal and to be loved. An acoustic version of this song exists with only piano, strings and vocals, and can easily be made into an instrumental.

Story Behind the Song

This is an autobiographical dive into my deep rooted self-loathing, and fear of being loved. It is a picture of hurt and betrayal, and also of the longing to be made whole again, to love, and to be loved.

I love the strong first line - I'm a liar. Grabbed me right away, and the great lyrics kept coming. Very well-written song. I love the arrangement with the strings and piano. The toms are very effective too. I love the breakdown at the end with just the vocal and piano and then the build back up. Beautiful song! I love it - A+

Just one truly great song!! Beautifully written, creating pictures and an atmosphere of paranoia and desperation - well that's how I hear it. The song is so powerful, you get the feeling it has already been a hit - and it should be. Beautifully arranged, produced and performed with real feeling by a very talented singer. What can I say - just top drawer music that deserves the very best of breaks.

Lyrics

I'm a liar, even when I tell the truth it's only partial
You'll never get everything
Because I'm a hider,
Even in plain sight, when you think you see all of me
It's never all of me

'Cause I've been hurt too many times to call it bad luck, yeah I'm punch drunk.

Love is terror, even on it's best day it's still a nuisance
Harsh and intrusive
'Cause I've hidden things of the darkest kind in the darkest corners of my mind
That I'm terrified you'll find in the light

You tell me it's ok, and I doubt it, but I hope to God you're right

'Cause I'm living with a strange hallelujah
I'm fighting with the shadows in my head
I'm searching for answers, but finding only questions instead
I don't know what you're after,
but I know that all I have to give...are pieces

God, I'm a cynic. If it looks good must be too good to be true
Like when I look at you.
But there's something gin your way that helps to keep my fear at bay,
And calms my senses. And I'm defenseless.

I've heard that there's a bright new world outside, and I hope that I can find it

'Cause I'm living with a strange hallelujah
I'm fighting with the shadows in my head
I'm searching for answers, but finding only questions instead
I don't know what you're after,
but I know that all I have to give...are pieces

And I don't want to waste another moment
Staring down the barrel of an imaginary gun
So if you tell me I can trust you,
Then I'll do my best not to turn around and run

'Cause I'm living with a strange hallelujah
Still fighting back the shadows in my head
I don't have all the answers, I guess I have to be ok with that
So if you still want whats left of me
I'm handing over all I have to give...pieces
