Story Behind The Song

This song was written for my mother (Joann Robinson). Although Spider Creek Road is an adaptation of Possum Run Road near Lilly Chapel, Ohio, my idea was to picture the country where my mother grew up near Parkersburg, West Virgina. 'Houses in a Row' is based on hearing my Mother singing 'Little Boxes made out of Ticky-tacky' in my youth.

Long ago I left here, bright lights on my mind,
It didn't take me long to leave the city behind.
The dreams I left there, the seeds I had sown

So I settled down and married, now a family's on the way,
And if my children ask me I don't know what I'll say.
You have to make your own mistakes and carry your own load,
But life can sure be easier right here on Spider Creek Road.
