Story Behind The Song
This song was written for my mother (Joann Robinson). Although Spider Creek Road is an adaptation of Possum Run Road near Lilly Chapel, Ohio, my idea was to picture the country where my mother grew up near
Parkersburg, West Virgina. 'Houses in a Row' is based on hearing my Mother singing 'Little Boxes
made out of Ticky-tacky' in my youth.

Lyrics
Out in back of the house where the blackberries grow
Lots of poison ivy and poison oak
Fish pond filled with blue gills and sleepy old toads
That's what life is made of out here on Spider Creek Road.
Not another house for miles around
It'd take you an hour just to get into town.
The road ain't paved, but it'll get you where you're going
But there's no need to leave this place called Spider Creek Road.
Tomatoes in the garden, green onions and green beans
Sit down on the back porch with a glass of cold iced tea.
Think about the city with the houses in a row
And thank your lucky stars for a place that you know ? Spider Creek Road.
Long ago I left here, bright lights on my mind,
It didn't take me long to leave the city behind.
The dreams I left there, the seeds I had sown
Don't come around to haunt me out here on Spider Creek Road.
So I settled down and married, now a family's on the way,
And if my children ask me I don't know what I'll say.
You have to make your own mistakes and carry your own load,
But life can sure be easier right here on Spider Creek Road.
Tomatoes in the garden, green onions and green beans
Sit down on the back porch with a glass of cold iced tea.
Think about the city with the houses in a row
And thank your lucky stars for a place that you know ? Spider Creek Road.
