Story Behind The Song
I was dating this girl who loved skiing, so I took her on a ski trip for Christmas. As the trip went on, it became obvious that she wasn't into the relationship anymore. She later confessed that she wanted to get back with her ex-boyfriend and so we broke up. We sat in silence the entire ride home, while the thoughts which are found in the song went through my head.
Song Description

Lyrics
A long drive home and now we're finished
Not a whole lot I can do
One-on-one there's not a moment
When the words will follow through
Lets just see if there's a breakthrough
And some thoughts might come out right
You're both alone
But she still has to drive you home
So it can wait until tonight
Thanks a lot, timing was perfect
We're just three hours from home
It's not so bad, its kind of funny
And I really should have known
Let's just see if there's a moment
When the words won't come out flat
But now they would
And, Lord, I want them to be good
So I'll just write it in a song
For you to hear and maybe you will be the one
Who feels some pain
Sorry if I cause you trouble
But I'll sing it once again
Tell me if you would have left me
If I left those words alone
Well, I thought up some music on this long
On this long drive home
I look and you and can't get angry
So I turn and look away
Tell myself I must be crazy
And imagine what I'd say
If I had a bit of courage
And I said instead of wrote
But here's a pen
And now I know where to begin
So I'll just write it in a note
Left just for you inside your mailbox
You can take your time and read
Read about how I was hopeful
And how much you meant to me
Tell me if you would have left me
If I left those words alone
Well, I thought up my header on this long
On this long drive home
